Windows

My tendency is to colour in all the areas with the paintbrush, just like in kindergarten. But that can sometimes be boring, especially when the subject is very linear, like these railings or the stones on the building. This is my attempt at getting away from painting between the lines, at least in some areas.

Love how dark you’ve made the window panes. What colour is that darkest part?
The darkest part is ultramarine blue and alizarin crimson (that is how I usually start my darks) and then a bit of sap green is mixed in. I never use black in the darks, or anywhere else. I just mix from a blue, a red and sometimes burnt sienna too.
Thanks Shari. I really like ultramarine blue.too. Sometimes I put a little dioxizine purple with it and the alizarin crimson to get a nice dark colour.
