Bridge repair
Posted: July 2, 2012 Filed under: Uncategorized 12 Comments »I haven’t travelled through Vermont since the flooding from Hurricane Irene last August. The covered bridge in Queechee was almost wiped out when the Ottaqueechee River rose 25 feet but it looks like it’s almost rebuilt now.
Due to some technical problems yesterday my beach painting post was really blurry. Now that I have returned from my weekend in Massachusetts the sketches from the last three days have been scanned and reposted. Hopefully they look a little brighter and a tiny bit sharper too.

Love the blues and greens in the water.
I had fun doing a little bit of abstraction in there.
Yes, love the water treatment. The whole image has the feeling of a tapestry to me for some reason. I mean this in a good way.
Thanks Alison. A tapestry is a good way to describe it. It feels that way to me too.
You picked a better view than I did when I sketched this bridge.
I did it looking into the span which was difficult perspective!
I am happy to hear it is almost rebuilt. Love the water, too.
I bet that was difficult Linda. I sat right by the Simon Pierce building on the rocks. I would have liked to be facing the bridge a bit more but then I would have had to be in the water!
Once again i love your pattern of shapes, especially in the structure of the bridge and rocks.
Out of curiosity is your abstract “ribbons” pattern of water flowing down over a waterfall?
It certainly captivates the eye.
Your sketches are always so fresh Shari, never overworked! (not easy with watercolour)
Thanks Mary. Yes, my abstract ribbons are a pattern of water going down over a waterfall. Since I was sitting in full sun again I couldn’t do a large wash without getting dry edges so I decided to treat the water in a different way.
I love the water… so nice
and everything else too!
Thanks Jane. It was a gorgeous spot for sketching.
Very nice
covered bridges are quite interesting as there are only a few where my parent’s live!
Thanks Jeffrey. I saw your business card on Facebook! Congratulations!!
