Le temps des fraises au Marché Jean Talon
Posted: July 7, 2012 Filed under: Uncategorized 12 Comments »Day 2 of my paper experiment: This new pad I am trying is the Arches “Carnet de Voyage”. A nice little travel book, size 6″ x 10″, with 140 lb cold pressed paper. I tried it first for my Jean Talon Market sketch and then again once I got home I did a little study of the berries I bought there. I’m really satisfied with the paper in this and I think I like it even better than the Strathmore from yesterday. This will definitely be in the bag for my symposium trip.
Here are the strawberries I painted quickly before they turned to jam in the heat.

Hi Shari! I saw your work in progress this morning and I was very curious to see the final result. It looks fantastic! You have captured the Marché in such a beautiful way! Hope to see you there some other time.
Nathalie, it was great to meet you this morning. I’m so glad you stopped to say hi. For sure you will see me there again. It is one of my favourite places in Montreal!!
Is your book also by Clairefontaine? I received a dear Carnet De Voyage Travel Album from a friend/blogger friend/artist who lives in France..I thought we might have the same..
I love the sketch of our market:) Perfect!I never saw that view~ You should frame it.
Thanks Monique! That is not the same album as yours. I actually could frame these new sketches because I can take the pages out of these new sketchbooks. Glad you like my favorite market too.
Such a wonderful composition of little shapes and detail and all executed without a fine liner
Where can one find this Arches
pen! Great control but still loose and fresh
travel sketch book? So good of you to experiment with papers and let us know
results.
They have these at de Serres Mary.
Love De Serres:) Thank you~
Two for the price of one… your blog is becoming even better value for money! And I like them both… and there are more people… wow!
As well, I don’t think that we see many paintings of the insides of buildings from you… you’ve painted objects inside buildings but I can’t recall interiors like this… unless you want to count the bedroom doors from a prone position.
Thanks Ross. It’s so great in the summer to have the luxury of time to do two in one day. Everyone thinks this is an interior but it’s actually open-air with a ceiling. Have a look at this link and you’ll see what I mean: http://www.pps.org/great_public_spaces/one?public_place_id=511#
OK. Makes more sense now, however some people may want to suggest that “open-air with a ceiling” is an oxymoron.
And, when do we start seeing the tropical paintings from Santo Domingo?
Yes, I know it doesn’t really make sense. But how else would you describe it?
You wouldn’t be able to be in there in the winter, that’s for sure.
I leave for Santo Domingo on Wednesday so hopefully there will be something that same day. I am hoping the WiFi is good in my hotel.
I’ll bet there are 202 followers hoping the same thing!
