All circles
Posted: July 9, 2012 Filed under: Uncategorized 13 Comments »Repetition gives a painting unity. I have probably written this many times. My friend Alison asked me why I chose this little scene in her driveway today and I answered that it was because I liked the play of light and shadow on the barrels. But after I scanned this I realized how many circles there were in this — the barrels, the logs from the woodpile in the back, the cut log on the ground, the potted plant and even the hole in the barrel. All circles.

I thoroughly enjoy receiving your sketches. What dedication to do a new one daily! Please keep them coming, they brighten my day. Thanks. Joan
Thanks for letting me know that you enjoy them Joan!
I love the shadows on the louvered door also and the splatters on those super barrels which reminds me of Andrew Wyeth! What colours did you mix for those nice rich, earthy(greys) tones, Shari? You even have circular shapes on the ground and great contrasts throughout. Beautifully fresh and alive, as usual
Glad you like it Mary. The grays are a combination of burnt sienna, ultramarine, raw sienna, alizarin.
Thank you Shari!
Lovely, fresh and warm. The earth tones are very rich. Another gem!
Valerie, your ears must have been burning. Alison and I were talking about you today.
Funny you should say that because Alison and I were talking about you and your ideas for a book!
So how is the book going? One year of sketches and paintings is getting very near.
You would need the help of a good graphic artist… that shouldn’t be too hard. But then you would have to choose which ones to include in the book… that would be really hard! However, I am pretty sure that these barrels would be an easy choice.
So far that book is just a germ of an idea. I think I would have to give up my day job as a graphic artist to be the graphic artist for this book. Or I could just give up sleeping and work on the book instead. There are plenty of possibilities. Glad you like the barrels Ross!
You’re right… there are plenty of possibilities… and, sleep is over-rated. : )
