As you can imagine, it’s a little difficult picking places in a city you’ve never been to, using Google street view. I give all the credit to Marc for the excellent research he did, mostly while I was in Paris. This sketch is from the place where I am going to do my first demo tomorrow. And coincidently the big brick building is where the group will be gathering for dinner shortly.

I like all these “bricky” colours and textures, although I am not sure where that curved shadow comes from?
But, did you really do this so that, in your workshop, you could do one of those cooking show things… “and now, something that I prepared earlier”?
That shadow is from the stack. I know it looks weird but that is how it was. And yes, my class was just like a cooking show and if you ready post you’ll see that we painted in the meat locker.
I meant if you read my post… I hate autofocus, I mean auto fill, I mean autofill.
All was OK… I had ready your posty… even without the correction.
As for the shadow, could it be that the stack angled or curved away from you, in a direct line with you? But that still wouldn’t explain the reducing width of the shadow. I guess another possibility is that you weren’t really looking at it closely and just got it wrong? : )
Don’t lose sleep Shari. A friend sent me a photo which shows the shadow the way you have drawn it… well, almost. It was all to do with the sun angle and the large “capping” on top of the stack… so the shadow is good.
And I did really well at not looking too closely at all the other details in the photo so we don’t need to talk about those.
Portland has a real authenticity about it – no end od great subejects. Have fun with the workshop Shari.
Thanks John. Portland is a great city. Perfect size, beautiful views, very green in the eco way, very youthful. I could easily live here. And unlike Montreal, the pedestrian is king.
