Simon Benson House
Posted: August 6, 2012 Filed under: Uncategorized 6 CommentsI love finding out interesting tidbits about something I’m sketching. The Simon Benson House, built around 1900, was originally situated on 11th and Clay but in 2000 it was restored and moved to the University of Portland campus. I only sketched the portico but the rest of the building is very ornate so you can imagine what moving it might have been like. I found a few photos on Flickr of the whole house on a flatbed truck…

A great workshop in Portland thanks to Shari & Marc, both wonderfully accomplished artists, as you can see, and excellent teachers. Great weather, great people, great fun. If you get a chance to go on one of their workshops, jump at it!
It was really great having you in the workshop Don. One of my favourite sketches was the one you did of this very same house.
I love this sketch… you get the spirit of the house it seems.
It’s a very beautiful house Jane, with lots of interesting details. You would have loved to sketch it.
I second Don’s comments. Great workshop weekend! And I love the photos of the house in motion.
Thanks Cathy! Your sketches were spectacular and I’m sure I haven’t even seen all of them. I hope you post them on Flickr soon if you haven’t already.
