40 Max

Luckily he paints mostly in oil and the poles were easy to take out, although it seems he did it reluctantly. That story reminded me of how much I love painting these utility poles and how few I had done this summer. I painted on the same 240 lb paper as yesterday’s experiment but I think I will have to get rid of this stock that I have had around for too long. There are some weird spots in paper that absorb too much paint, but luckily it’s in the foreground foliage area and not that noticeable.

I really like the poles and wires. It would be a shame to be asked to take them out.
How do you get the wires so fine? Do you use a really fine brush or just the point of your regular brush? I assume these aren’t done in pen, at least it doesn’t look like it.
I use a rigger brush for these Valerie. If I added pen to this it would be too dark. The colours are very soft in this. It was as if the paint was getting sucked up by the paper. It’s Winsor Newton and it’s like a paper towel. I’m not going to use this again.
I recognize your stile and your light… you give life to this anonymous poles.
Thanks Miguel!
Remove telephone poles?! That would almost be a sin. I really like those guys. The more wires the better. And I like your sketch too.
Thanks Filipe. Glad you like them too.
Nice!
Thanks Moish!
