Peacemaker

The tall ship Peacemaker is 150 feet long but I couldn’t get far enough away to draw the whole vessel so I chose a detail. The light was hitting the  rolled up sails just right against the turbulent sky. And if you tuned out the crowds of people lining up to board the ship it seemed that we had been transported to another era — a time of adventure or exploration or conquest.

    That’s very pretty Shari!

    Shari,
I saw that boat from the Sciences Center yesterday. You captured the feeling of the sail better than if you have done all the ship. I found the view from the Center disappointing because the wharf is too high beside the boat. Where were you?

I would like to know how long did you need to paint something like that. I’m asking myself this question very often when I look at your sketches. I figure you work fast, but how fast?

    • Thanks Charles. Marc and I paid the $10 entry fee so we could tour the inside of the boats. But the lines were so long so we sat on some benches on the pier next to them for this one. For yesterday’s sketch we sat on the pier above them where all the tents were.

The first painting took close to 2 hours because of all the complex drawing. I think the second one took about 1.5 hours. Is that slower than you thought? That is about average for this size which is 9″ x 12″.

  3. All of the different blues and greens in this gem of a painting are truly lovely! Great viewpoint! I look forward to your blog every day and wonder what you’ll think to paint next! It’s like being a tourist in my own city!
