Waiting for the horses

I went back to the shopping mall parking lot carnival again today to see how things were going with the set up. Just as I started painting, the carousel starting spinning and the guys began unloading the wooden horses. If I go back tomorrow I may even be able to take a ride on the Zipper.

  1. This looks like a ton of fun….in addition to all that good and cool here, I especially like that sky filled with a variety of colors and textures: complicated but a great background to the developing carousel.

    • It was a ton of fun Jim. I loved painting this stuff, strangely enough. And being in Santo Domingo helped me get the confidence to add in the people. Your work looks really great after the Symposium too.

Oh, come on, Shari… painting a carousel without the horses… that’s a bit “easy” for you, isn’t it? : )
I think you are in need of a new challenge from me… how about doing a painting while riding on a carousel horse… or while riding the Zipper? Now, that would be impressive on the Urban Sketchers website! Are you up to it?

    • That makes me laugh Ross. I was feeling a bit queasy just looking at the tall ships in the harbour. I can’t read a map in a moving vehicle. So I’m afraid I am not the right person for this challenge.

I know what you mean… I can’t swivel too quickly on my office chair! But don’t worry, I will think of something else for you.

Shari, I love seeing your daily sketches and reading the short stories that accompany them. They capture such beauty, even among the simplest things that we so often overlook in our hurry to get to wherever it is we’re going. The loose structure along with so much detail is wonderful. My question, whose feet are dangling up in the awning over the worker? :-)

    • You noticed them! They belong to one of the guys installing the horses on the carousel. I was wondering what they were and then he jumped down. Glad you like the posts! Thanks for commenting.
