Out of the snow
Posted: January 9, 2013 Filed under: Uncategorized 8 Comments »At dusk I realized that I had no post for the day so I sketched this little tableau of things sticking out of the snow in front of my house: my purple shovel, my red shovel (buried) and bits of the smokebush. I couldn’t find my watercolour sketchbook so I painted it on the resistant Moleskine sketch paper. Not perfect for painting snow but voilà — a little minimalist view at the end of the day.

Just home from a plein air workshop with Lee Kline (fellow student.) He was very complementary about your abilities and person which I readily believed. He had his Montreal sketchbook with him and I enjoyed looking at all the places he captured with his watercolours.
So glad you got to meet Lee. We had a great time sketching together this past autumn. I loved what he did while he was here and I keep threatening to visit him in Florida one day.
did you use the ‘Zasbo’ snow formula?
Oh ya, good last minute recovery Shari.
No Zsabo formula here John. I was standing at my front door with my paints at my feet. I’m not even sure what was on my brush.
Addendum:
Your narrative set this up as fluff Shari. I just had another look and realized that it is a very strong composition. I imagine its small, but it would be worth consideration as. Full sheet.
Yes, I did set it up as fluff but I think it would make a good painting on better paper. Unfortunately we are having a bit of a thaw, as you must be in Ottawa, so the snow is not very pretty today but I am sure you are out skiing in this warm weather. Or skating on those new blades if the ice is good.
I love it!! And your snow!! Here it’s constantly raining. I need light!!!
That can be very depressing Katrin. I know that feeling of just hoping to see some sun and some light. I hope it happens soon.
