Balcony

It was warm enough to sketch outside for the first time today. This is a section of a bigger sketch that I did and a reminder to myself about the importance of planning. The full sketch has a big dead area in the middle which I would have seen had I done a value sketch before rushing into the painting. But the light on this upper balcony was so perfect, the shadows from the power lines were great, the bench on the street was free and I wanted to paint!

I will be taking a short break from posting during this Easter weekend so I can focus on my illustrations for the children’s book I am working on. I hope you have a nice Easter, Passover, equinox, or whatever it is you celebrate. See you in April!

Shari, Nice balcony. All the best with your illustrations, and Happy Easter to you too! : )

Gotta love those quirky Montreal balconies. I can feel the warm sunshine! Lovely!

This is stunning! So much depth and the side view is very dramatic. Were you on another balcony to paint this?
But on a more serious subject, now that you have almost 600 followers, don’t you think that something more formal than “I will be taking a short break” is in order… perhaps a written request for leave… with maybe two weeks’ notice?

    • I was sitting below and across the street to paint this. In the same spot as the time I was harassed by that unpleasant man. Well guess what? He found me again! I guess he is a local, and probably mentally unstable judging from the things he said to me. He was less threathening this time, thankfully.
As for a request for a formal leave, I will take that under advisement. Thanks for your suggestion : )

Don’t know how you do it, but you certainly manage to attract some strange people… at least he wasn’t quite as threatening this time. Perhaps you need to stop wearing that hoodie with “please harass me” written on the back. : )
And I still can’t understand how you managed to paint this view of the balcony from street level… is there a hill involved?

      • No hill involved here. Maybe just my bad drawing again: )

      • Ross C says:

No, I think not… I have been following long enough to recognize that you have at least some level of drawing talent. : )
I am now thinking it is more likely that you were some distance from the balcony which resulted in this view.
