Let’s go to Fogo
Posted: January 15, 2014 Filed under: Uncategorized 42 CommentsIt’s always been a dream of mine to go to Newfoundland to paint the rugged maritime landscape. I haven’t made it there yet but I was happy to work on an illustration of the spectacular Fogo Island Inn for a travel agent friend of mine who is promoting the place. One of these days I’d love to bring a group there for a workshop. Interested? Let me know! (And if you can’t wait for the workshop, I can put you in touch with my travel agent friend.)
Hi Shari, I hope your wrist is getting better. Please keep me posted if you decide to do the workshop in Newfoundland.

I read an article recently on this beautiful boutique hotel; very interesting story behind its development. I love its design and your sketch really does it justice. Newfoundland’s on my buckets list too.

The hotel has been getting some amazing press and it’s a great story about a native islander coming back home and creating this special place. I love the design too. My friend stayed there this summer and had nothing but rave reviews about the place.

Thank you. Glad you got your cast off although it never seemed to inhibit your skills. Don’t know how you do what you do – teaching at John Abbott, VAC, sketch a day (although it seems to me there are often more than one a day), home and family. Super woman! It leaves me exhausted!

Fogo Island sounds interesting… is that somewhere near Australia?
I like the sketch but, at first, I thought you really got the building wrong… all out of proportion, with the columns too long. But then I looked at the website and realized that you actually got it right! Amazing.

So you are amazed that I got it right? For once?

I seem to be having a problem with people misunderstanding my comments lately… so, to clarify… no, I didn’t think you were amazing at all. : )
I thought the building was amazing… a very unusual design… how does an architect talk a client into constructing something like that?

I read a travel book once about Newfoundland and Labrador; they sound like fascinating places, and other-worldly when you consider the vastness and diversity of the North American continent and landscapes in general.
