Finally
Posted: March 10, 2015 Filed under: Uncategorized 69 Comments“Finally!” seems to be the word of the day from the people I pass on the street. And because we’re not hidden inside hats and parkas, we can nod, smile and acknowledge the fact that spring might just be on its way. And there’s a joyous sound outdoors too. It’s the happy drip of snow melting — from trees, off roofs, under cars. It’s definitely a day to paint puddles.

Hi Shari,
I’m so glad you are starting to get nice days too! The river is really starting to thaw here so probably no more -20! I was just thinking about you and Jane because I just got a book in the mail that I ordered after we watched Paris Next Stop, Montparnasse. It’s called Paris Café, The Select Crowd after the café that Rick Tulka did his drawings in.

I just need to ask this for my own understanding because Canada is probably different to Australia… do you have road rules which say that you can’t park in the middle of the road?

No, we have no rules like that. We can park any which way. Do you have rules like that?

Shari, as I have long suspected… and may have even commented on previously, once or twice, you seem to have a very real blind-spot when it comes to comprehending rules about parking. Maybe it only happens when you have a sketchbook in your hand?
Personally, I think it is great that we have been able to identify your problem through this blog… do you think you should be seeking professional help?

75 degrees here today. Love the evergreens in this – the colors, temperature shifts and shape. They are gorgeous. Those puddles are fantabulous. Love how the reflections deal with sky trees and background as they recede.
How long did this one take you?

Thanks for the great comments Fleet. I guess I was out there for about 45 minutes. Maybe an hour tops. Once in a while a painting paints itself. This was one of them.

Pleased that Spring seems to be on its way – but sorry it means almost the last of your beautiful snow paintings (illustrations?) this year, melting or otherwise. Still, there’s always the first full view of the wheelbarrow to look forward to …..

I’m sorry too Tony. I love painting snow, but I just hate the extreme cold that we just went through.
Going back to the illustration/painting discussion…
illustration seems to be something I do for someone else and painting is something I do for me. I guess that’s my background in graphic arts. Of course that doesn’t explain the Two Trees painting because there was no client involved in that one.

Wow, this is SO beautiful Shari, and all the more so for the story it tells. The puddles are glorious and create so much atmosphere. Such a contrast to the hot landscape where I am. I hope you are able to enjoy beautiful spring weather soon!

A lovely painting-love your style. So glad that you are seeing a thaw. I heard people around here in NC complaining about the week or so of below 20 degrees. We have nothing to complain about- you folks up North are tough and talented!

Shari, i am sincerely moved by the beauty and simplicity of your painting. In a world of landscape painters you somehow know how to make the familiar scenes sparkle with fresh ideas. This talent is not easy to come by, and can’t be purchased at the art store. We’ve not met, but I’m currently dealing with devestating personal loss in my life. The moment I saw your work I felt somewhat better. I actually felt a ray of hope. Thank you for that. And I now know the secret to great watercolors is knowing where to park the car.
