Yesterday
Posted: July 8, 2015 Filed under: Uncategorized 16 CommentsYesterday started with a downpour (while I was out sketching) and ended with a flood (in my basement). In the middle I did this sketch. If it looks a little watery it’s because my car studio turned into a sauna during the rain (which came down so hard that I couldn’t crack open the windows, not even a little bit) and it’s hard to get things to dry in a sauna.

I have only recently joined your site which I find instructional and very refreshing.I seem to recall the little house as being an old favourite, from your archive.
You have produced a lovely fresh picture, despite the weather.

Hi Peter. So glad you found my site. Yes, I have drawn this little lockmaster’s house on the canal many times. I find it very intriguing because of the way it sits tucked in under the rail bridge and right at a curve in the road. There are always interesting people walking by when I sit there. There are some places I keep going back to and this is one of them.

What a trooper..and lovely watercolor..hope there is not too much damage down there..

Not much damage Monique. Just a lot of cleanup. It was the water heater that leaked into the storage room. The only damage was to a big bag of dog food that got soaked and burst all over the floor. But by the end of the day the water heater was replaced and everything was cleaned up. Just glad it happened while we were at home.

Shari, this is really nice Selection and placement of colors outstanding. Someone once said, perhaps Winston Churchill, “When you’re going through hell. the only thing you can do is to just keep going”. And you did. You are a force for creativity.

I live in Canada so I paint in the car all winter. It’s the only way I can paint outside most of the year. I’m quite used to it now.

Good to hear that there was a little bit of adversity involved here… I sometimes think that you get it a bit too easy. You’re an artist… isn’t there supposed to be some suffering involved? : )
Anyway, the end result was good! I know you have done this subject a few times (I am assuming there is a convenient parking spot) but this treatment has a real freshness about it… something to do with the light, I assume.

I guess a little bit of adversity is always good, as long as it only has to do with the weather.
I’m not really sure what this scene looked like when I painted it. The rain was coming down so hard that I couldn’t really see it until I was done. And yes, there is a no parking zone in front of where I parked. so a truck can never block my view.
