Monday bouquet

I’m constantly shifting things around in my palette. A few months ago I took out Sap Green, but for flower painting I find it’s really a necessity. I squeezed out a small blob of it on a corner of my tray, as well as some Deep Sap Green. With the addition of a little yellow there wasn’t much else I had to do to get the right colour for this foliage. Painted on a pad of Arches 140 lb cold press paper, 12″ x 12″.

so wonderful! I love how you handled the delicate edge of the glass jar. I do not know how you did it, but I know there is an edge there

    • Thanks Arvind. I once read, or heard, probably from Charles Reid, that you should just paint the stems and ignore the vase. With that in mind, I try not to pay too much attention to that vase.

that is ingenious, I cannot tell you how much I enjoyed that one edge, I am looking at it again right now. I will remember that little adage from Charles Reid! again just wonderful! I don’t say that often I think.

I love that edge, too, Arvind. It was the first thing I noticed–after being wowed by the colors!

I need to really look at this. . . loose, but specific; specific (as in telling the whole story) in such a simple, casual, LOOSE way. I totally envy you for your vision and technique. Thanks for sharing.

I too, love this painting, Shari. I like how you leave the white of the paper showing through to suggest space, light or an edge. I really don’t know how to explain it. Anyway, no matter what subject you pick to paint, it is always a winner!
