The lunch crowd
Posted: June 22, 2016 Filed under: Uncategorized 32 CommentsLunch at Roy Moore Lobster Co. is a quick affair. Order your lobster roll or clam chowder inside and either take it away or eat it outside on a picnic table on the back deck. Possibly sharing a table with complete strangers. From my chair across the little bay I can watch this crowd for hours. The rounded backs of diners tells me everything. These are people enjoying their food. They are an easy crowd to draw. When one group finishes eating and moves on, they are replaced by another group who assume the same positions. Yellow shirt, blue shirt or striped shirt, it doesn’t matter. It’s just spots and dots of diners doing some serious eating.
Oh, I love this!!! Order me a lobster roll…

Shari,
You’re obviously having a fine time – love the colors, shapes & handling of foreground as well as the great people shapes. Envying those people with, I presume, Maine lobsters!!!
Keep enjoying – I love your blog. Thank you.

Thanks Soni. These are local lobsters from Massachusetts. The boats go in and out every day and Roy Moore gets them fresh off the boat. That’s why the crowds are so big at lunchtime!

It is interesting how the coast scenes are alike along the East coast. I love this painting. We have gone to Maine for years and this brings back memories. I’ve painted such scenes from the restaurant side, never the water. We plan to go this fall and the thought of lobster rolls is tempting. I agree that the colors are wonderful. So is your rendering of the water.
Shari, did you use ink at all?

HI Judy,
There’s no ink in this at all. Just pencil and watercolour. I hope you have a wonderful time in Maine, and enjoy the lobster! There’s nothing like the taste of lobster when you get it right from the source. Hope you plan on sketching there too.

I was wondering if you use a viewfinder up there. I didn’t find it listed among your materials, but remember one from your Craftsy class……

I do sometimes use a viewfinder but I didn’t for this one. I always have it in my bag and use it for teaching as well.

You picked a nice place to eat. The Porter family that run Roy Moore/Fish Shack are very nice, down to earth people that have been in the industry for years. I used to eat there all the time when I lived in Rockport.

I love the Fish Shack. In fact I buy fish every day from them when I’m in Rockport.
