Waterville
Posted: August 5, 2016 Filed under: Uncategorized 14 CommentsSome of my favourite moments in Ireland were spent sketching in places where I could overhear conversations while I drew. This one is from a café in Waterville where two local women chattered on about children, husbands, neighbours and friends. They were seated a few tables away from me, but talked loudly enough for their words to form a background narrative while I drew. Sketched in a Handbook Journal, 8″ x 8″, while drinking tea and eating a scone.
Delightfully charming. The overheard conversation was a perfect addition to tea and scones. It’s the stuff of poetry and maybe novels … depending on the conversation.

Thanks Louise. It is definitely the stuff of poetry and novels. Of course the Irish lilt didn’t hurt either.

I love how they don’t hesitate to paint a building purple in Ireland. Love this!

It reminded me of St. John’s Newfoundland where all the houses are different colours.

Lovely sketch as always and proof again of the power of a sketch (even someone else’s) to bring back memories. Makes me want to be back there. On a dry day would be a bonus!

Thanks Tony. It was one of the few sunny days we had in Ireland. In total there were two. Actually 1.5 sunny days. And none in Manchester. But I still want to go back, no matter the weather.

It has been such a gift to follow all the urban sketchers to, through, and past Manchester–for those of us who couodn’t make it, and probably never will. So appreciate the generous sharing.

Julana, I really appreciate knowing that. Do you follow Parka’s videos too? Everyone gets such a good sense of the symposium because of them.
