Nine minutes of procrastination

My graduating students are preparing their final graphic design portfolios and I am sitting in the cafeteria, editing the texts that goes with each piece in the portfolio. It’s a wonderful yet time-consuming and tedious process. This is what I do when I need a break from reading. Each one is a three-minute contour drawing.

That’s funny! I’m an editor by trade and when I’m working on something really boring, I do the same thing.

And I am a production designer and I check out your blog when I need a break while doing endless edits to corporate print layouts. Thanks for the inspiration 🙂

Shari, Are these done with never picking up your pen? They are wonderful. When I try not looking at the paper and not lifting my pen–they can come out looking really odd. Any advice? Thanks.

    • I try to do a continuous line, Judy. These are contour but not blind contour so I do look at the paper too. Instead of lifting my pen, I try to lightly move it over the paper if I want to start in another area.

Great contour drawings, especially the one of the student hunched over writing. I like how you sneak in some sketching even when you are busy.
