Posted: September 8, 2017 Filed under: Uncategorized 25 CommentsIt’s been such a busy start to the school year that it’s hard to find time to sketch. One extra course has been added to my workload this term, and that means not only more teaching time but more preparation and extra grading time too. It leaves me frustrated because of course I like to do a daily sketch, but sometimes there are no more hours left in the day.
On Fridays I start a little later and this morning I was determined to find a bit of time to return to a house I spotted a few weeks ago on my way to school. It’s on a side street just a few blocks from the building where I work, and it looks nothing like the surrounding houses in the neighbourhood, which are mostly low-rise brick apartments buildings or two-storey duplexes. It’s situated next to a automobile repair shop, which is also a bit of an oddity in a residential area. Needless to say, I was pretty happy to spend an hour or so sketching this house before I went to class. Sketched in a Handbook Watercolor Journal, 8″ x 8″.

Hi. This blog is the one thing that is not on my “to do” list, because that would mean that I consider it a chore. But I love drawing, and my blog has also allowed me to enjoy writing too. It is pure pleasure and that’s why I find it so frustrating when there is no time. It’s a bonus and a joy for me that people like you also enjoy it and comment on the posts. So glad you wrote today. And welcome to the new age; wherein anyone with a salary can always do MORE -right?-wrong!- or at least not as well. Which is why I retired when I finally could and with a great sigh of relief.
My son lived for 10 years in Montreal and i see why that house attracted you as special. Your watercolor sketch is lovely.

I can imagine the feeling when you just can’t juggle the time and find the needed stretch to do some painting or sketching. I’m glad you were successful and went back to sketch this cute little house. Nicely done!
