The Village: an exhibition of my Pointe-Claire watercolours
Posted: March 24, 2018 Filed under: Uncategorized 31 CommentsIf you’ve been following this blog for a while you may know that I’ve been painting scenes of Pointe-Claire Village for years. I often stop there on my way to school for a quick sketch, or set up my easel in the shade of a willow in the park with a view of the boats in the yacht club. I frequently paint the same corners in many seasons and often go back to draw the iconic windmill on lazy August days.
Now it’s my pleasure to have a show and sale of those paintings at Studio 77, a cafe and exhibition space in the town where they were painted. The show opens on Saturday, March 31. If you’re in Montreal, join me at the vernissage from 6-8 pm, or stop by Studio 77 for a latte any day until April 29. It’s located at 271 Bord-du-Lac in Pointe Claire.

Since I am waaay down in Texas I hope you take a video of your work once it is all hung and share it on Instagram. Although I do not like snow, I do appreciate your snowy scenes reminding me of my childhood in Illinois!

Pretending your paintings have been the imaginary village in the Louise Penny mysteries I am reading…an imaginary village near Montreal called Three Pines.

Dee, I love those books. We used to listen to Louise Penny on the radio. She was a broadcaster before she became a mystery writer.

Good for you & so well deserved – a rock star of plein art painting! Just curious though, are you ripping pages out of your sketchbooks and framing them for sale? In your 2 page spreads it seems there could be a second painting on the reverse. I know you’ve figured this all out – but can’t help wondering how.

HI Lynn. Thanks so much for your good wishes. In answer to your question, no, I am not ripping pages out of books. Everything from the show is done on sheets of paper, either cut from bigger sheets, done on blocks or pads, etc. I work in so many ways but I rarely cut stuff out of books. If someone loves the image I can always make a print of the work for them.
