Pascale

Pascale was one of the best models to draw this session. Not only were her warm-up poses exceptional, but on breaks from the long pose, her vivacious personality lit up the room. I think that makes a difference when you are drawing someone, don’t you? I find I do a better drawing if I understand something about the personality of the model. This was the last session before I take a break for the summer, and it was a great way to end the season.

I drew last night with black and white chalk, on Stillman & Birn Nova Series grey paper. It was the ideal paper to use for someone with dark toned skin, although I didn’t know who our model would be when I packed my supplies. At the end of the evening, Pascale did a tour of the room to look at the drawings, and her comment about mine was that I rendered her tattoo very well. Can you tell what it is?

Both drawings are really beautiful. You’re right about the toned paper. It really gives a warmth to the drawing and makes the white highlights pop. Re: the tattoo, I’m torn between a dancer and an octopus…sorry. Anyway that is not the real subject and those you nailed beautifully.

    • That’s pretty funny Jeff. When I was sitting further away during the short poses, I saw the tattoo and thought it was an octopus as well. But when I drew her from the back I realized it was a flamenco dancer. Tattoos are hard to draw, aren’t they? Anyway, thanks for the kind words. See you soon!!

Just a dancer to me. Nice drawings. My classical art school in Philly was almost all nude drawing and painting. Even clay modeling. Don’t think I could draw one again. Good for you keeping up with it.

Her tattoo looks like a Flameco (sp?) dancer.

Flamenco dancer. Love these! But can’t imagine why anyone would have a flamenco dancer on their back… I’d even prefer the octopus 😆
