Alice under the weather
Posted: February 1, 2019 Filed under: Uncategorized 25 CommentsAlice the dog did not have a good week. I suspect she ate something rotten in the woods. I will spare you the gritty details, but she did do a lot of sleeping. That gave me a chance to practice using different tools in Procreate on my iPad — chalk, coloured pencil, and different ink and paint brushes. I’m happy to report that she’s on the mend, and I am quite certain of this because on the last drawing she was back to her usual behaviour of looking at me impatiently, hoping for a walk, while I draw.
Glad to hear that Alice is doing OK! And your drawings are always more than OK!

Good paintings/drawings about a sad subject. Being a dog owner, I’ve gone thru the sick dog problem many times.( Why can’t they tell you what caused it? ) But being on the mend is good news. And it gave you the opportunity to use various media on the same subject. Never would have thought of using chalk. Thanks for showing these.

Thanks Judy. I know what caused Alice’s problem. She definitely ingested something rotten at the park. Sometimes she’s off leash and before I can spot her she hoovers down something stinky. Thankfully she’s better now.

Beautiful use of the Procreate tools. Each of the drawings has a different look and feeling which, I’m sure, is exactly what you were aiming for. I particularly like the last one which has such beautiful control of the values. I hope Alice is recovered.

Thanks Jeff. Alice is much better, thanks so antibiotics and probiotics. She’s back to her normal energetic self. Glad you like my Procreate experiments. You inspire me!! As you can see I am very methodical in my approach. I only try one or two tools at a time, hoping to get to know each of them well. Hopefully you’ll teach me a few tricks when we see each other in March.

Hi Shari, glad to hear Alice is getting better.
A couple of weeks ago I took part in a two day en plein air watercolour workshop in the Fitzroy Gardens in Melbourne, Australia. The very excellent teacher was Mike Kowalski. When we were talking about creating a fresh look with watercolour I mentioned your name as one of
my favourite artists. It was then Mike talked about how well you paint snow, and also that he
has some of his paintings featured in your upcoming book. It was lovely to hear about this connection. We had a very instructive two days with variety and patience. I am now looking forward to receiving my pre-ordered book with extra verve. Sandi

Hi Sandi, How lucky you are to have studied with Mike. I think his work is fabulous and I’m very envious of your opportunity to learn with him.
I could have filled a book with his work alone. Maybe one of these days I will get to meet him too. I hope to make it to Australia in 2020!!
