Sketching Montreal: an article in Artists Magazine
Posted: April 21, 2019 Filed under: Uncategorized 39 CommentsI can’t deny that it’s been an exciting month for me. Besides the release of my book, I’m honoured to have my Montreal sketches published in the June 2019 issue of Artists Magazine. Thanks to Anne Hevener for creating this special issue featuring cityscapes (in ink, watercolour and oil), and Austin Williams for the great interview. It makes me proud to see my city here.

Huge Congrats!!! I’m going to have to go searching for that issue!!

I hope you have more luck than I did. I ended up buying the digital edition so I could see. Couldn’t find it at my local magazine store, although they carry the other publications in the same series.

Lived in “nearby” New England all my life, but have never traveled to Montreal. After discovering your blog a few years ago, this city had been on my list of “must see”places. Congratulations on your well deserved honor, and thanks for sharing your art and love of your home town.

Congratulations, Shari! A really nice article, lots of info packed into a small, readable space. They chose some very nice paintings to illustrate it with!
By the way, I recently purchased your book and am excited to put its ideas and concepts into use. In fact, I recently had the chance . . . I had occasion to sit in a hospital waiting room for several hours. I didn’t have any colors with me but I did have a small sketchbook, a pencil, and a pen. There was an interesting urban view out the window and sketching kept my mind occupied for the better part of an hour, rather than just siting there worrying and stewing. Whether a person’s sketches turn out good or bad, there’s power and magic in being able to entertain yourself by drawing!

Amelia, that is so true. I have sketched my way through many a wait in hospitals and doctor’s offices. It really does help to keep the mind occupied. And you’re right about the end result. The benefit is derived from the process, not the product. Thanks so much for writing, and for buying the book!

A restaurant i frequent to just be with people, has pictures of their country. Before I leave i use a piece of paper and sketch one of them. My heart is warmer concluding my activity.

A restaurant is always a great place to sketch, although if I sketch my food, it gets cold. Thanks for writing.
