A garage with no name
Posted: January 14, 2020 Filed under: Uncategorized 19 CommentsIf you know Pointe Claire Village you might recognize this garage on Rue Ste. Anne. It rarely seems to be open but there are always vehicles parked there, and I’ve sketched some of them over the years. The location is of little interest in the summer. It’s mostly dark and looks abandoned, but in the winter it holds all kinds of intrigue when everything has a coating of snow on it. I particularly love the vintage Land Rover with the frame at the top for cargo, and an old yellow Jaguar that’s sometimes parked out front.

You can make a gathering of parked cars in a seemingly abandon lot look like a place of interest on the map of Pointe Claire Village! Great painting and notes of the lot of snow covered cars. Love it!

Another great snow scene. The rose color on the top of the structures in the back add a warm glow. Love the footprints.

Really admire your ability to depict contemporary CARS, Shari! I often leave them out of my landscapes because they just don’t look right, but yours are SPOT ON! LOVE that Prius in the Bagel Shop watercolor (Dec 2018), and the dark blue station wagon in the following Cola-cola watercolor – WOW! I realize most is due to your fine draftsmanship and facility with perspective, but your light touch and simplification on the cars is AMAZING. Maybe you could do a blog post with some tips on drawings and painting cars(?) Enjoying your blog – keep up the GREAT WORK!

Barry, thanks so much for this. I really appreciate it because I have struggled so much with cars over the years. But now I look forward to adding them in to my sketches and paintings. They are so much a part of street scenes, aren’t they?
