Posted: July 4, 2020 Filed under: Uncategorized 16 CommentsStella doesn’t sit still for long. She’s a little Yorkie who is visiting for the afternoon. When I started drawing her, I quickly realized that the sketches of her would have to be quick. As soon as she hears a sound, those giant ears go up and out, like the wings of a bird in flight.
When she finally did settle down (in Alice’s bed!) the body was still but the ears still had a life of their own.

I finally have a laptop again. Its been over 6 weeks. And so nice to have your dog sketches come up. Yorkies are so cute and have so much spirit. And what great ears. You really captured this. I have to go back thru 6 weeks of your blogs now. Missed you.

Thanks for adding Stella the Yorkie to your dog model portfolio. I always look forward to seeing Alice since she resembles our own dog, and Stella has added an alert presence that seems so very lifelike too!

Alice was a little jealous. When Stella was on my lap, Alice tried to climb up there too. She doesn’t realize that she’s not a lap dog!

These sketches of Stella are so charming! You really captured her spirit. Those ears tell the whole story. Seeing this reminds me of a request for a course for your online school. Would you consider doing a “Drawing Basics” refresher course? It would be so helpful. Your drawing skills are so sharp and so crisp; it would be great to take a drawing class with you. It would definitely help everyone’s watercolor painting efforts to take a quantum leap forward. Thanks! :0)

Thanks so much Janine. Yes, her ears do tell the whole story. As for a drawing course, I haven’t given that one much thought. But you put the idea in my head and I will actually think about it. Each course takes a lot of thought and preparation, so maybe I will save this idea for the winter when I am indoors more. That is actually something that I can teach in studio.

This is really so good Shari. I have tried to draw my own dogs without any real success. I try to stick to the bog shapes and then focus on details. Just doesn’t seem to work out ~. Glad to be able to see you dog drawings however! I know practice is a lot of it but maybe I’m have the wrong approach. Thanks,
