Fifteen minutes

I had exactly fifteen minutes to draw — the time it takes from when you finish getting your Covid19 vaccine until the time it is safe to leave the vaccination site. These people also had fifteen minutes. Knowing that I would have a bit of time there, I brought along a sketchbook and a brush pen. At first I started to draw carefully but then my drawing became more animated. Excitement, relief, happiness to be drawing people? A bit of everything I suppose. I forgot to date the drawing before scanning it but I will now. I don’t want to forget this.

I’m still waiting for mine tho I am on a list. But when I go I will take my sketch pad and pen along. 15 min. will be a challenge. Are you sure to want to remember this, however!

I do have a question. I don’t like rough paper . What cold press do you recommend? Thanks..

    • Hi Judy. I hope you get your vaccination soon.
As for paper, I like both Fabriano and Arches CP. Excellent quality.

Shari, love your figures! Re. paper: you don’t use those expensive w.c. sheets for quick(ish) dry sketches, do you??

      • I definitely do not! This is just a cheap sketchbook!

Phew! I was worried Judy Sopher would run out and buy a $100+ sketchbook, misunderstanding your paper recommendation! :^>

That is funny. No worry I’d spend that much on a sketchbook. Is there such a thing?

Love this! Strange and trying times for so many. We were relieved when we had ours, especially the final. Still practicing all the precautions. Finding out last night that a young loved one is in peril hit us in the deepest parts of humanity. Life is hard and Covid has deepened the difficulty for so many. Creating is a healthy and needed outlet.

I did the same thing with my second shot. We had an hour wait the first time, just to get into the building. Wished I had brought a sketchbook that time! Second time was a 5 minute wait and we were chatting with a friend the whole time.

You turned a chore (even if one you were grateful to get done) into a sketch event! Bravo Shari! Love your people! Urban sketchers unite!

Looks just like the “waiting room” when we got our vaccines in Florida! People spread out, chairs facing in all directions; people “taking control” by moving their chair that suits them. You’re so smart to record this unforgettable time in our history.

Where was my head!? Wish I would have taken my sketchbook 🤔 Got my 2nd shot and looking ahead to better times or back to normal. Told my husband, instead of a mortgage burning party, I’m having a mask burning party when all is done. 👍

    • Linda, so happy you were vaccinated too!
As for the masks, I think they will still be around for a while. I’m so used to them now, I hardly notice when I have one on. Strange times.

So good to use every opportunity to draw. It’s also a great way to record the day of those who were vaccinated. Luckily I have had both shots. My husband remains on a waiting list? I too have had several menders of our family who did not escape the virus.

  19. I made a really bad small biro sketch of a health worker at my first Covid test, now a year later I doubt I’ll ever throw that sketch away. It speaks volumes.

  20. I like your words…..excitement, relief, happiness to be drawing people? I was vaccinated a few days after you here in B.C. I’m still trying to let it all sink in. I am enjoying being a new follower of your sketchbook blog.

    • Yes, all of those feelings for sure. So happy you were vaccinated too Linda. Things are getting worse in Quebec, as they are in BC, so it is a small relief to have had the shot even if we continue to remain mostly at home as we did before. It just makes a little less worrisome when we go out to get groceries or do other errands. I’m sure you feel the same way.
