Last day of winter

From Ultramarine Blue, Cadmium Red and Hansa Yellow I was able to mix the soft grey of the sky, the dark grey of the road, the muted grey of the distant trees and the warm neutral of the bollards. The snow was falling quite heavily at times which required a few brief moments of turning the wipers on, but it was worth it to be out there, capturing this last-day-of-winter scene. Painted from my car studio, on a pad of Arches CP paper, 10″ x 14″.

There is a real feeling of a bleak winter day. Reminds me of growing up in Ohio, And your limited palette works so well.The touch of yellow is great.

I LOVE the warmth of the color of the road leading my eye to a center of interest.
I keep a sketchbook in my car and often draw lots of parked cars, trees and buildings. It’s great practice for my eyes and hand. Your car “paintings” are exceptional! Thanks for the inspiration.
Using a limited palette takes the stress out of the work in my opinion. Nice reminder that the first day of spring can bring questionable weather. Do you use a fine grain Arches CP? just wondering…
