Backyards
Posted: January 17, 2012 Filed under: Uncategorized 6 CommentsThere’s lots of snow falling today and everything is so quiet. I wanted to paint this scene with a limited palette of greys. I always rely on the same combo to mix a good neutral grey: ultramarine and burnt sienna. But today I wanted to try something different so I used cobalt, alizarin crimson and a bit of cadmium yellow (although a more transparent yellow would have been better). It still has too much colour for my liking so I think I will have to work on that some more.
On a side note, I had to stand on my toes in the upstairs bathroom to get this view into the neighbouring backyards but the light was good and there was abundant water nearby.

Sari, this is beautiful and a lot brighter than what I saw today in my part of Montreal (near Marché Jean-Talon). I envy your watercolor techniques and your perfect transparent washes. I hope one day I will achieve this?!?
Thanks Martine. The snow is always cleaner in the suburbs with few cars and pollution.
I really like this one. It feels as if I am on top of the roof looking down into peaceful neighborhood yards. Love the paw prints on the roof next door and the trees that fade as they get further away. Nice work, as usual!
Thanks Dianna. Glad you noticed the paw prints on the roof.
I certainly recognize that place! Only you could make it look so lovely!
I was going to email you to tell you to see what I did today. Glad you like it!
