Urban sketcher or urban photographer?
Posted: March 7, 2012 Filed under: Uncategorized 10 CommentsSpring is definitely in the air. The snow was melting all over the place and lots of people were out walking and enjoying the temperatures that are now on the positive side of the zero mark. I was at my usual spot down by the water in Pointe Claire when a man approached my open car window. I thought for sure he was going to ask me to move my car since I was once again in a no parking zone. But what he wanted was for me to take a picture of him for an online dating site, and he wasn’t embarrassed to tell me so. His first choice for a background was in front of the church but then we had a little discussion about how that might be perceived by the women looking at the photo. In the end he posed in front of the lake, I took the photo, wished him luck, finished my quick sketch and fled.

Ha! Funny story. Maybe he should have had you paint him!
This is another lovely painting. It’s luminous, even with the limited pallet. I really like the narrow format, too.
Thanks Vicky. I was thinking the next thing he would do was ask me to sketch him…
The narrow format is from both sides of the small Moleskine.
Hah- adding to the collection of painting stories 🙂
Wonderfully tree shadows as always!
I’m saving them all up somewhere!
Yikes! Ambushed for a photo… people sneak up on my all the time when I’m sketching. Those cast shadows rolling along the ground’s contour look great!
Aren’t you sketching from inside your office? Are the people sneaking up on you people you work with?
Hah! Well, I do sneak outside from time to time. Too funny! I’ve had that happen, by the way. Wearing headphones…. not good. 🙂
Aha! So your masterpieces are not always created from behind the glass. Your secrets are revealed. I listen to the car radio but no headphones. It would scare me too much if someone surprised me from behind.
Great Story! The spring fever is starting. 🙂
I love the verticality of the subjects and the bending blue shadows in this one. Beautiful.
Thanks Karen!
