The ugly season
Posted: March 11, 2012 Filed under: Uncategorized 12 CommentsIf winter in Montreal is all about the cold and the snow, then spring is about the mess that is left behind when the snow melts. Plastic bags and water bottles that lay hidden are now littered about on the side of the road. And the pretty little mounds created by the snowplows melt away to reveal great piles of dirt and debris — our very own slag heaps.

Shari,
You manage to make even the slag heaps look good!
Linda
Thanks Linda. I should go to a mining town to paint some real ones someday…
This is almost like a comic book strip — it would actually work 😉 I love it!
Yes Jane, it has that illustrative quality of a comic book. That will be my next venture. Comic books.
Wow, a new palette of colours for painting the snow! Looks mucky and great at the same time.
And, can you please explain to me why there are so many no-parking signs in your paintings?
Ross, I’m glad you describe it as great and mucky at the same time. In reality it is beyond ugly. As for the parking signs, they are always in the best spots where I want to paint. But I was parked legally this time…
And was the contrasting red seat really red, or did you change the colour for artistic impact?
Here’s a photo of the benches on the campus: http://micromedia.vaniercollege.qc.ca/

Shari — you would just have to add a few words and this would be a beautiful start for a comic 😉
nice loose sketch Shari
Thanks John. Not as beautiful and light as yours from today though…
