Northern palms

On steamy summer nights people gather at Wild Willy’s ice cream shop in Pointe Claire Village — entire soccer teams, families with dogs, swimmers from the local pools. I had to smile when I drove by there today and saw this year’s addition to their outdoor decor: two giant plastic palm trees. And it felt sooooooooooo tropical as I sketched them in the pouring rain.

Nice sketch. It is good that you had a tropical experience, but these are very unconvincing palm trees! Either your sketching abilities are deteriorating sadly or these are, without doubt, the worst plastic palm trees produced in the northern hemisphere… I think it is probably the latter. Is this one of the major industries of Montreal during winter… producing plastic palms? : )
Yes, these plastic palms, like all plastic objects, are made locally.
very graphic and a departure from your normal style
good for you to brak out
Yes John. It felt good to do some line work for a change.
Shari, in my book, you certainly don’t have to convince anyone of your ability to draw “convincing” objects. You simply made the trees look fake…as they are. It’s difficult to make a funny comment in this format…possibly this is what Ross C. was intending? As always, your sketch makes my day! Thanks again for doing this.
Thanks so much Pat. I appreciate your comments.
