Good day for a sail
Posted: June 25, 2012 Filed under: Uncategorized 15 CommentsI have looked at these boats at the yacht club many times and even started several drawings. But each time I attempted this I got caught up in the details of this complex subject and I wasn’t very successful in my rendering. Today I started with a different idea — just try to capture the essence of these boats Shari! What is the essence of a sailboat? Masts, booms, rigging, sails, and hulls. The rest is just details (at least for a sketcher). So lots of verticals and even though the masts are not very accurate and the rigging sometimes leads to nowhere I think I can safely say that most people will understand that these are sailboats.
…. as a former sailboat owner you depicted them perfectly — nice job !!

An artist can render a scene in a chosen artistic expression. The sailboats have movement in them. They’re lovely

Well Shari, waht can I say. I love just about everything in your skectch. I look at it and see a perfect balance of composition and colors. The masts against the sky are simply beautiful.
Well done!!

Shari, I can’t tell you how inspiring you are. I loved the coverage in the Gazette. I used to do a lot of that kind of drawing/watercolouring, and I have allowed myself not to have the time, lately. Your beautiful drawings make me want to start again. thank you
Oh yes, I opened a blogspot, but I haven’t put anything in it yet….

Dorothy, just start. I started with a quick drawing a day, sometimes just 15 minutes a day. Just get out your drawing stuff and get to it.
