Announcing Urban Sketchers Montreal!

I am so happy to announce the launch of Urban Sketchers Montreal, the local chapter of urbansketchers.org. Marc Taro Holmes and I have been wanting to organize this for a while and thanks to all the work Marc put into setting up the website, we are now official. What does this mean? Well, we are going to be meeting once a month to sketch (on the fourth Sunday of the month) and we invite anyone who is interested to join us. Our first outing is this coming Sunday, September 23, and we’ll be meeting in Place Jacques Cartier. We hope to have lots of sketchers turn out to draw and paint with us, so to find out more here’s the schedule. In the winter we have some indoor locations planned and there’s lots more info on the site so please have a look. And there’s no pressure to post anything… just come and have fun drawing.

Today’s sketch is one I did at the Roxham Wool Gathering — a unique craft fair that takes place every year at Roxham Farm close to Hemmingford. I was hoping to see (and sketch) some sheep shearing but I arrived at the wrong time so instead I found a nice old Dodge De Soto sign that was almost as good.

This is a lovely sketch Shari. I wish I could join you for your sketching sessions, unfortunately Montreal is a little bit too far away from Sydney Australia! 🙁 Happy sketching!

  2. Wow Shari and Marc I am delighted, finally the Montrealers’ turn! I will be there, early but will be there….

Lovely sketch of the Woolgathering! Thanks for coming to the event.

    • Thanks Jane. It was a great event and I would have loved to sketch more. I will have to go back next year. I assume this is your family farm.
I was looking for the really old maple tree but couldn’t find it. I took some gorgeous shots of the horses when they came out of the barn too.
How did you find this sketch?

Your people look great… so natural! It is amazing what a difference your few days in SD made to your skill in this area.
