Seize the moment
Posted: December 5, 2012 Filed under: Uncategorized 10 CommentsOn my drive back from doing a very boring sketch I turned a corner onto the road that runs along the lakeshore. The sky was dark, there were snow squalls swirling and a bitter wind blowing and the whole scene was so much more interesting that what I just sketched. I made a sharp turn into a parking spot and did another quick sketch, this time of the drama unfolding in the sky.

Shari, I’ve been looking at your work for a long time now and I am amazed at how you are committed to this. I’m curious. How long did it take you to sketch this amazing little scene?..
Thanks Michelle. It’s true that I am very committed to this. It has brought me so much joy this past year and I have met so many people through this. I think this took less than 30 minutes in the car and then a few more at home to finish it. But that is not counting the time that it took to do the boring sketch that I never posted.
Where is that scene? Is that Lachine? Is it the The pier?
That is exactly where that is Elaine.
Whew! I love that sky.
Thanks Lee. It’s all full of backruns but I guess the darkness comes across.
I really like your sketches, especially the architecture. To a fellow sketcher, who doesn’t do as much outdoors as I want to, they are inspiring.
Thanks so much. My advice is start small. I was drawing 15 minutes a day to start and it helped me immensely. Over 400 drawings later I feel much more confident to draw in any situation.
Great storytelling Shari. The dramatic sky and three leaning trees put me in mind of the witches in Macbeth.
toil, toil, mix a puddle
colours fresh and not a muddle
Thanks John. I love that!
