Like apples and oranges

A few days ago I had a comment on the blog from a friend of mine who noticed that I was really committed to this daily sketch thing. She was right. I draw day in and day out, even if I don’t have much time. Today I only had a few minutes between morning and afternoon classes so I drew my lunch before I ate it. It is a pretty ordinary drawing but I did something (which is better than nothing!) and that was my original intention when I started this project 14 months ago. A different drawing every day.

I will be the first to admit that I am my own worst critic. I have discarded many decent sketches because I didn’t think they were worth posting and then when I looked at them months later realized that they weren’t so bad after all. But I am happy that I have stuck with this and now I can’t imagine letting a day go by without putting pen to paper.

    Hi Shari,

and I have come to rely on your daily postings…. when you post very late at night, sometimes I worry. I wonder and I hope that you are ok? So your daily postings have become part of my daily routine — they reassure me, as they show me what it really means to be dedicated, and passionate. So I thank you Shari — and I always look forward to your postings. Ohhh! And btw, if ever you “know” in advance that you will not be able to post one day, please let us know? As I am pretty sure that I will not be the only one that will be thinking of you? 😉

    • Jane, I am touched by your comments. I have often thought about what would happen if I didn’t post one day. Would anyone comment? So now I know. If ever I am going through a period when I foresee not being able to post, I will put up a message to let everyone know. It’s funny because I have gone through some very stressful periods in the last 14 months but I continue to draw. I would never want to appear as if I have a “self-help” blog but drawing is a very good form of therapy. Very much like meditation, I guess.

  2. Keep at it, we love them!

Well done: ) I am trying to do the same with writing. Not just on my blog, which gets a few posts a week, but elsewhere too. It’s a challenge but well worth it.

    • Thanks Rob! I also appreciate the exercise of writing every day and I forgot to mention that. I’m sure you notice too that it gets better with practice.

Oh absolutely, I liken writing to a muscle that needs to spend some time in the gym periodically to be excercised 🙂

Shari, you are definitely one of the best examples that I know of commitment… drawing daily! There must have been so many times in the past 14 months when so many other things were demanding your attention or trying to disrupt your routine.
And, as I have said before, you only have to look back at your earlier work to see that your commitment has paid dividends in the development of your skills… and, as you did all of this publicly, a few of us have benefited as well.

    • Thanks Ross. I said it to someone else yesterday too but I always appreciate the comments. They are what keep me going!! So thanks for your committment in encouraging me.

Some people choose social media sites to get their “joke-of-the-day”, I prefer looking at pictures for my daily smiles. I visit two sites daily, one posts vintage pictures and yours. They bring instant pleasure and that is a good thing to include in any daily routine…a dose of pleasure. Thank you for keeping things going even when you don’t have the time. It is truly admired and appreciated. But please, never allow this blog to create a slave out of something that brings you joy.
