Big green dome
Posted: February 21, 2013 Filed under: Uncategorized 9 CommentsI have only painted the big copper dome of St. Joseph’s Oratory from a distance but I was passing by today and it was offset against this really dark blue sky. Such drama! I pulled into an empty parking spot (which are very hard to find after two solid days of snow) and sketched this. It was obscured by trees so I painted those too.

lovely…so airy.
Thanks so much Susan.
Love it..as I love the Oratory~
It’s a beautiful shape in our skyline, isn’t it Monique?
Like the viewpoint… looking up at that fairly steep angle. And you appeared to get the perspective right on the dome, which is not easy… it seems that you are actually not too bad at doing that.
And you are sooo careful describing your parking these days… perhaps a little too deliberate… makes me wonder??? : )
That was difficult perspective. I always have trouble with the curves.
As for the parking I was going to write about the new app I have on my iPhone but then decided against it. It is an app for the Montreal parking meters so I just punch in the number of the meter and pay directly on my phone. I didn’t even have to get out of the car and step through 2 feet of slush. Do you know what slush is Ross?
I am guessing that slush is something to do with sloppy wet snow piled up at the side of the road that (possibly exaggerating) Montrealers really like to complain about… but I am also guessing that the real point of the question was that I am supposed to be feeling sorry for you??? Nah… you will have to do better than that. : )
You will have to excuse me now because I need to go and put a jacket on… the temperature just went below 22 degrees C… must be a cool change coming through.
Lovely Shari. And your post is a great reminder that “if you see something that catches your eye, just stop and paint it!” Not always practical to do, but one can try.
And it is also a great reminder to keep your painting stuff in the car!! Thanks Alison.
