Garlic ‘n lime
Posted: August 27, 2014 Filed under: Uncategorized 12 CommentsIn today’s sketch I used a technique I practice often in landscape painting but not too frequently when I paint a still life. My first wash (the warmish one) covers everything except the white areas that I want to save. The subsequent layers of paint, applied in glazes, are used to build up the mid-tones and darks. The hope, of course, is that that first warm wash will unify the sketch and that the garlic and lime will flavour a Mexican meal.

Simply perfect. And thanks for the technique explanation.
Simply thanks Tim!
Of course I love it!
And I know why you do!
How very beautiful Shari. I love that pop of green on the lime. The mood captured here is verging on sublime!
You are very kind Alison!
You don’t know how much I appreciate your beautifully written comments Marisa. I hope you are well, wherever you are in Paris or Barcelona. xxoo
Hi Shari — this shows me how much I still do not know. I am ready any time to take another workshop with you — rain or shine -))) Simply magnificent!
Thanks Jane. We are all learning, all the time. With watercolour it is a neverending journey…
Thank you for the explanation to go along with the sketch. I really enjoy your teaching as much as the drawings themselves.
I really appreciate that Charlie.
