Wind chimes
Posted: May 29, 2023 Filed under: Uncategorized 25 CommentsThe boats are finally in the water in Pointe Claire, and today I rode my bike down there to sketch them. I have a favourite vantage point in the park, set up especially for me, with a picnic table in the sun and a view of the bay where the boats are docked. On windy days I love the sound from that spot. It’s the music made by clanging masts which sound like chimes as they bang together in the breeze, a bit like this.
Sketched in my Hahnemuhle sketchbook, 8″ x 11.5″.

Isn’t the sound of the chimes wonderful, Shari? We like to drive to your downtown marina to sit and watch the birds and the fishermen and listen to the ‘chimes’ too.
The sound of the chimes is wonderful. Glad you enjoy it too, Lois!!
When I looked at our sketch I could ‘hear’ those chimes so clearly and ‘see’ the wind blowing. Lovely!
Thanks Bonnie!
So great! Love the sounds 🥰
Lori, thanks!
The sounds of the chimes. The title « Wind Chimes » captured my moment. Reflecting on being fortunate on living by the sea here on Salt Spring Island BC. The scene is an everyday one for me. Yet I can fall into the blind trappings of “taking things for granted” I fail to sense this beauty of the presence that surrounds us. To see the sound in chorus with all our senses is what this painting awakens me to remember. All this to say Thank you with much appreciation for your Art.
Michel, this is a beautiful comment to read. Sending much appreciation your way too.
Always interesting the sounds and things which move us – I agree with the clanking of a harbor, but also love the sound of foghorns on dark, damp nights, or the howls and yippings of coyotes in the middle of the night, or the neighborhood owls whoo-whoo! And the mourning doves . . . . sound is a wonderful thing. Your painting is really a delight, too!!
I thought a shark was passing by!
Amazing complexity and so fresh. The song of the rigging is lovely too.
That is beautiful music .
Must be wonderful to paint in this place.
Love your colors and the sense of movement of the boats and the water.
I can tell you are in your “happy place”!
Denise, you are so right. It was an especially happy day because I rode there on my bike with my sketch stuff in the panier, and then took a little ride after that too. All in all, an ideal few hours.
Lovely!!! What a nice place 🙂
It sure it!
Hello Shari,
Love your boat scenes.
Some time ago I bought your course on painting water but couldn’t make time to do it. Life is easier now. Can I still access it please? I’ve really enjoyed two other courses of yours online.
Best wishes, Wendy
I always love your oh so complicated boat scenes. I take one look at something like that and am totally daunted. You are definitely my favourite sketch artist!
Donna, thanks so much!! I love these boat scenes, as you know. And it’s really the complexity that I love!!
Excellent painting of the boats in Point Claire. I really like all these shades and tones of blues that you added.
I know the sound. Gre
Beautiful capture! I agree, we hear the music provided by the marina right outside our livingroom windows all summer along.
Good Morning dear friend Shari,
Beautiful work.
Blessings
