Sea treasures

There’s not much joy in moving house. It’s hard both physically and mentally. But one of the unexpected pleasures has been unpacking stuff that I haven’t seen in a long time. Today I found a box of shells and other sea treasures like a starfish and a seahorse. I probably packed these into a bin years ago, and like many other bins, I had no idea what was inside. But that’s the thing about unpacking. You suddenly realize what you have. Of course I could have packed them up again, but instead I set them up on my drawing table to observe their interesting shapes and subtle colours.

And now that almost everything is unpacked and my studio is set up, I hope to be posting more often. Thanks for your patience during this extended break!! It feels good to be back.

Happy to see you back. It IS hard. I haven’t moved in a while but I just helped my sister unpack 50+boxes and we found some things from the 80s that had moved all around the US without ever getting unpacked! I hope your new studio is glorious.

    • Ashley, the last time I moved I had much less stuff. Wow, I had no idea how hard it would be but it’s done and hopefully we won’t be doing this anytime soon. I bet your sister appreciated your help with her move. As for my new studio, I have a big window and lots of light. Spyro set up the Sonos speakers so now I have music too, and I just love it. I can’t paint without music. Plus, I know where everything is!! It’s a joy.

Beautiful paintings, beautiful treasures! Happy Holidays in your new home.

    • Thanks Denis. I am so happy to be here, and waiting for the kids to come home for the holidays. They haven’t seen the new place yet, so that will be kinda weird for them, but nice too, I hope.

  3. Wonderful! Story and painting.

It sounds like you are settling in. Moving takes it’s toll both physically and emotionally. I can’t wait to see your drawings of Alice, your wheelbarrow and favorite trees from your new neighborhood. Enjoy your new digs.

    • Thanks Carol. Yes, we are settling in, finally. We had way too much stuff for the new place so part of the process was getting rid of stuff too. A lot of energy was devoted to that but it’s pretty much done. Hope all is well with you. Can’t wait to see you in April.

I’m with you. Packing gets old quickly. But unpacking is like an extra birthday! Love that you found a soulmate for your wheelbarrow.

    • Yes, packing gets old quickly for sure. We did hire the movers to help us, otherwise it would have taken much more time. That way I was able to save my energy for unpacking which is much more fun.
