Posted: March 7, 2024 Filed under: Uncategorized 8 CommentsI can’t stop painting these mini-daffodils. This time I painted them in my portrait format sketchbook. When I looked at them up close with all their delicate details, they reminded me of butterflies, so I added a deep sky blue background with some Prussian Blue. It’s not that easy to paint around all these shapes so I wet the paper first, as best I could, around the flowers. In some places I went back with a second wash of paint which ended up a little too dark in spots. Sketched in my Hahnemuhle 100% cotton sketchbook.
The blue is a perfect background for the daffodils. I think the variations in the values in the blue background are very attractive.

Oh, I love how the dark blue background sets them off so well!! They look like they’re dancing in the blue sky. Great job! Now I want to go out and buy some daffs.

SO beautiful! Your daffodils continue to regale us no matter what state they’re in but with this Prussian Blue as a background? Seriously magnificent!!

I just finished some mini daffodils blooming in the yard…and had the same problem with the background. I’m going to try again while blooms last.
