August Alice
Posted: August 29, 2024 Filed under: Uncategorized | Tags: Alice, dog drawing, ink drawing 35 CommentsI’ve been painting quite a bit lately — filming a new course, working on some watercolours for fall exhibitions, preparing a few new ideas for videos — and you may have been wondering where Alice the dog is in all of this. As always, she’s by my side where ever I go. If I’m sitting on a dock by a lake drawing boathouses, she’s at my feet, watching the ducks go by. If I’m in my studio, she’s usually sleeping after her long walk. And if I’m working in the garden, she’s exploring the mini forest in my new backyard and putting her nose where it shouldn’t be, like into a nest of stinging hornets.
I always have several ink pens in my office and when I take a break from looking at my computer, I often draw Alice as she sleeps in one of her many beds. She doesn’t always stay in her bed while I’m drawing, especially if she hears the doorbell or someone eating in the kitchen, but she usually comes back and I just fill the page with another drawing.

Dogs are an artist’s best friend! And vice versa.
Absolutely!!
What wonderful sketches of Alice! She’s obviously adapted well to the move to your new home in Hudson. Sounds like she is enjoying the wilds of the yard, despite the hornets.
She loves the new house, the trails, and the new backyard (except for the hornets!). She adapted to this house faster than we did.
Love love love these sketches! And I find that sleeping dogs are wonderful to sketch! Though it turns out that my little Luke sleeps with one eye open for bunnies, squirrels, bicycles, and anything else that moves.
Thanks so much Jaci! Alice also sleeps with one eye open sometimes. She is watching for anyone finishing a yogourt container that she knows she will get eventually.
I love how dogs stretch out like that. My cats all sleep in this round little heap. Not near as wonderful to sketch as Alice.
I bet that heap of cats would be wonderful to drawing. I love that idea!!
What talent you have!! And she’s adorable!!
Wendy, thank you. And yes, she’s a funny girl.
Aw, sweet Alice. My dog Ruby is always close by and they do give us so much joy don’t they. I’ve sketched her a few times, capturing her character is a challenge. Looking forward to new videos!!!!
Maureen, new videos will be out in September!
Sweet Alice❤️ Thanks for keeping us in the loop of her goings on. Good to see she is in her”happy place”!
Denise
Thanks Denise. Alice is having a good summer and I am happy I am here with her. It’s nice to be home.
Hi Shari. I’d be willing to bet that all of your subscribers have the same reaction as I do to an “Alice” email…the right hand touches the heart with the exclamation, “Oh, I just LOVE Alice!!!” Thanks for sharing her through your amazing drawings. Hugs from B.C.
Lori, this is so nice to read. Thank you!!
Alice is always a treasure to behold – Thanks for todays selections, much appreciated 🙂
And Chris, it’s always wonderful to hear from you!!
I was wondering how Alice likes her new home, but clesrly she has settled right in! Such nice sketches of your sweet girl.
Linda, she loves her new home. And there are fewer stairs which I’m sure she appreciates.
You go, Alice! Except maybe not in the hornet nest….
Exactly!!
❤️
How great to have such a cooperative model. These are great!
Thank you Joan. Yes, Alice is the BEST model.
Lovely Alice!
Aren’t dogs wonderful companions! No questions asked, no complaints— just pure love.
So true!
My dog would look up and ask for a treat for modeling.
Alice is ALWAYS hoping for a treat.
I’ve missed Alice! Thanks.
The power of a sketch. I think I know Alice better because of them and your prodigious skills.
Janice, this is so nice to read. Thank you!
Lovely post that created a feeling of love within me. Thanks.
