Alice in blue

My reward today for finishing up a tedious project was to spend some time sketching Alice. And her gift to me was staying still for the whole time. It’s nearly time for her walk, but she held her pose until I was done, as if she knew how important a bit of drawing time was for me.

When I set out to draw, I wasn’t sure what my subject would be but she was beside me, and thankfully I had a ballpoint pen and a sketchbook right on my desk. Getting up to find drawing tools would have disturbed her and ruined the moment. Now my gift to her will be long walk and maybe a few throws of a tennis ball since the snow is finally starting to disappear.

    Hi Shari
Thank you for this…I love all things Alice!!! Ironically, I just got back from a walk with my Silver Labrador, Gemma. We played in a mini blizzard…yay Canada!!! (Just whining, impatient for spring!)

    • Thanks Lori. Do you draw Gemma too? Sorry to hear that you still have snow. I hope it’s over in my part of the country… And I hope spring arrives soon for you too.

I love your Alice drawings. Just curious, where do you start? An outline?

    • Hi Carly, It’s great to hear from you. When I’m drawing Alice, I know she will move at anytime, so I do a quick outline first. That way if she moves, at least I have a contour I can work with. I was lucky today. She didn’t move and I was able to do some shading too.

    Sweet Alice!

lovely Shari. I had a white Lab and she looks so much like Alice. My Nola would always always know when I was drawing her, even when seemingly sound asleep. She did not like that and would always get up and move or change position. So my sketches of her were quick line drawings.

Love it! captured in the moment.
By the way, we found a few tennis balls for Alice to chase next time.

Love the sketch and ditto everyone’s comments. 😁 Alice is blue-tiful.
I did smile widely when I read that Alice’s gift was to stay still while you sketched.

Dogs are just the best in any form – sleeping, romping, and being drawn. Mine is lounging right now, waiting for belly rubs. Alice is quite famous in certain circles but it obviously hasn’t spoilt her!

Awwww, how sweet. You’ll have to post a real photo of sweet Alice one of these days. 🙂

Sounds like you have a good method of sketching her and have found a way to not disturb her so that she stays still. I always enjoy seeing your sketches of Alice.

Now the only thing I can think about is what the tedious task was 🤣
