First snow

Winter arrived early this year. And stayed. We had an unexpected early snowfall — wet flakes that accumulated on branches still heavy with leaves. The power was out for a night and a day. Most of us were caught without our winter tires on. It was a little chaotic for a few days, as the start of winter always is.

Usually with an early blizzard like this, the snow would be gone in a day or two but it has stayed. And more snow has fallen. I might be the only person to appreciate this early winter. My wheelbarrows were not quite in the right position for painting but I set up a chair in front of my patio door and sketched them. I tried to convey the weight of that early snow on the surrounding evergreens, and the way the wheelbarrows are a bit hidden in the trees.

So beautiful! I wish it were snowing here!

I think that this has to be my all time favorite of all your wheelbarrows, and I love them all! The little birdhouse is a reminder of the summer past, and the first snow signaling a (much) earlier winter. I’m only an hour or so south of you and reading your note…….well, it was the same here!

Beautiful but I think you are right. The rest of us are cursing. I did laugh at my husband for putting on snow tires in Oct. but he has the last laugh

Shari this is just lovely. I can really feel the weight of wet snow that you conveyed. I too love snow although in southwest Ohio we have only seen barely an inch so far this year. Snow is one of my favorite subjects and your tutorials are very, very helpful. Let it snow!

I remember once we had a snow like this in NY. Then a thaw. And as I stood under a tree a blob of melting snow landed on my head! You’ve caught that cold beauty perfectly. The rich blues between the snowy branches above and the reds of the wheel barrows below make for an altogether stunning painting. Brrr.

Definitely the weight on those branches–but so pretty. We are still in short sleeves here in Florida. I am over it, too!

You nailed it with that heavy snow. It’s nice to hear someone appreciating the beauty of nature and not grumbling about the weather!

My all time favorite of the wheelbarrow so far. It would make a lovely Christmas card.

Nice those red wheelbarrows in the snow and I also like the little bird houses. A wink to spring.
