Waiting for spring
Posted: February 16, 2012 Filed under: Uncategorized 10 CommentsI’m running out of cobalt blue. That’s the colour that I use for all the snow shadows (sometimes I mix it with a cool red like alizarin crimson too). In the fall I wondered if I would be able to continue painting all winter long in my car. Now I know the winter isn’t over yet (there’s still March with all the “in like a lion and out like a lamb” stuff) but somehow I did manage to do quite a good lot of snow paintings. More than I ever thought possible back in the fall. And except for the day when my paint froze right on the brush, it has been a surprisingly great experience. I think I may actually miss the snow when it’s gone.

I can appreciate you getting tired of the cold, but I think you have really sorted out your winter palette.
I’m really looking forward to learning more about colour theory and more to point mixing from you in the summer.
I look forward to having you in the class John.
Nice bench! Send some snow our way. It’s like Florida here now…. too warm for February.
I agree. It’s too warm here too.
Thanks. Your winter watercolors are beautiful.
Thanks Pedro.
I have really enjoyed your snow scenes. Atleast with snow the sun comes out and you get shadows. We in the damp, gray Pacific Northwest are jealous!
Linda
You’re right. I love the shadows in the snow. It’s much harder to paint on the gray days.
Thank you for mentioning cobalt blue. I had been wondering what colour to paint those shadows in the snow…
Gina
Yes Gina. Lots of cobalt blue! Unfortunately it’s one of those expensive colours.
