Hockey fever
Posted: May 9, 2026 Filed under: Uncategorized 15 CommentsIt’s finally warm enough here to sketch outside and that is something to celebrate. I was trying to find a subject to sketch on Main St. in Hudson today when this view caught my eye. Of course I loved the striped parasols at the pizzeria, but I also felt I should join in on hockey fever by drawing a Habs flag. In case you don’t follow hockey, the Montreal Canadiens are in the playoffs and everywhere you go in the city you’ll see their red, white and blue flag. I’ve seen it hanging on construction cranes, flapping on car windows, lit up on billboards, on buses… There are a lot of hockey fans in this city. I don’t watch during the regular season, but I’ll admit I’m a fan too during the playoffs.

I enjoy following you and seeing your work. I’ve also enjoyed taking your classes. I’m from Buffalo and I have to say a friendly “Go Sabres!” We love your country and as you saw we know your national anthem as well as our own. I have to root for the Sabres. Our city needs a big win!
Greta, thanks for writing! Your city has made the headlines here because of the singing of our anthem. What great fans! I will root for the Sabres too!!
Loved the sketch and hockey playoffs also. janice bean
Thanks Janice!
I’m the same. Our Minnesota Wild are in the playoffs too. And I’ve been watching too. Tonight might be our last game though. I love the flags and the umbrellas. It’s still too cold here to paint outside unless one can find a sunny place protected from the wind.
Pam, I hope it warms up soon for you too!!
Love the history behind this sketch!
Thanks Natalia!!
Good Morning dear friend Shari,
Lovely painting, as usual.
Have a beautiful day always.
Blessings

Love the shadows!
Thanks! I did them quickly!!
GO HABS! Ole ! Ole ! Ole !
Beautiful! I like stripes on parasols and the Montréal Canadiens context !
That is so nice. Hockey was the big sport when we lived in N>D. but I never went to anything. Recently I have started learning more about it. Love the umbrellas. You can make a lovely painting of just anything.
Very nice! Love the sketch, the shadows…perfectly executed and thanks too for adding the history behind the artwork. Your explanation adds MUCH to your art. The “quick” sketches that you share help me see that giving a little bit of time can build strength in more detailed watercolor artwork. Don’t let a day go by without art making. Thanks for the lovely reminder.
