Spires
Posted: March 15, 2012 Filed under: Uncategorized 20 CommentsAll winter I’ve been working in my Moleskine and I’ve become quite used to the paper in that little sketchbook. None of the single sheets of watercolour paper I have on hand quite matches it. Arches cold press is too rough, and hot press is too smooth. So I ordered some Fabriano Artistico soft press and guess what? It’s just right.
This was painted with a limited palette of three colours — ultramarine blue, raw sienna and alizarin crimson.

Love all the shades of different gray.
Thanks Valerie. That’s what it was today. A study in grays.
Wonderful! I love it.
Thanks Dianna!
One question – was this done in Pointe-Claire Village @ St-Joachin Church or in Ste-Anne’s at the church along the water on Ste-Anne’s street? My guess is Pointe-Claire Village.
You are right. You know my two favourite spots now! This is in Pointe Claire village, with the rectory in the foreground and the steeple of St. Joachim in the background.
Oh my dear — this one has to be my all time favourite — absolutely gorgeous… And with only 3 colours? Wow!
Wow Jane. I’m so glad you like this one.
Beautiful!
Thanks Vicky.
I love this one.
Thanks Sis!
I so enjoy viewing your artwork each day. I especially love this one!
Thanks Lisa. I’m so happy to have your comments and encouragement.
Great greys once again! I made a journal with Fabriano soft press
and really like it for sketching.
I’m glad to hear that you like it too Linda. I find it gorgeous and velvety.
Very beautiful Shari!
The colours are amazing.
Thanks Karen.
Great painting… I love the composition with the layering of the spires. And I love the fact that you included the wires… adds yet another layer. What size did you do this one?
Thanks Ross. This was 1/8 of a full sheet of watercolour paper so 7.5 x 11 inches. I like this elongated shape, either horizontal or vertical.
