Spring

For some of us who live in cold climates, checking the frozen ground and waiting for something green to emerge from the thawing soil is a daily activity in March and April. There are no shoots poking out of the ground yet in my garden but when my son surprised me with these tulips the other day I felt almost sure that spring will come.

Stunning! I like the composition pushing out of the picture frame.

But please tell me – the spring light and colours which are so evident in your last two posts – are they really what it is like in Montreal now, or is it just all in your mind?

  2. Glad you like it Ross. It was warm yesterday but today we had record-smashing March temperatures in Montreal so it’s not just in my head. It was 24C here today — we went directly from winter to summer, totally bypassing spring. A few days ago people were wearing hats, gloves, and winter boots. Today it was shorts and tank tops. Environmentally a bit scary actually…

That’s a dramatic change! So Shari, is this the end of “Urban Canadian car painting” for a while? Or will you still use the car even when the weather is friendly?

    Gorgeous!

Positively seductive! Composition draws you in, makes me feel like I’m in the room with these blooms.

    • Thanks Alison. Of course when I think if spectacular tulips I think of those tall, late ones at the front of your house. I could do a whole summer of sketching in your garden. Would you mind if I did that?
