Urban Sketching in Portland, Oregon
Posted: April 29, 2012 Filed under: Uncategorized 8 CommentsI am thrilled to announce that Marc Taro Holmes and I will be teaching a watercolour workshop in Portland, Oregon in August. The workshop will focus on capturing the environment around you in watercolor sketches. We’ll emphasize working quickly and making well designed compositions that tell a story and we’ll be doing lots of demonstrations in different locations. I’ve never been to Portland so I’m really looking forward to it — and to meeting all the west coast sketchers. Here’s the link with more details on the Urban Sketchers site.
On my way downtown to sketch I noticed no fewer than five cranes hovering above Griffintown. This little house was sandwiched between two bigger buildings but I bet it won’t be long before this whole residential row will be gone and condos built in their place.

What a chance to work with Marc, I admire his work.
Fantastic sketch, I am always surprised about your selection of frame. I think I probably try to catch too much in my drawings. Something to work on.
I’m very excited to work with Marc. I admire his work very much too. I think it’s going to be a great experience. I thought maybe I didn’t put enough into this frame, but I’m glad you like it. I thought maybe I should have included a bit more of the little house.
Hi Shari,
I am so thrilled for you my dear — you and Marc will make an amazing team! Just wish that I could go… unless I scritch-scratched at the bottom of my coffers to find a few forgotten loonies 😉 I will pass this year.
Thanks Jane. I think Marc and I will do a workshop here one day so you can come to that. Plus when we go out on the next Sketchcrawl you can join us. Just watching him paint and draw is amazing. He is so talented!
Totally agree — and yes I will be there with you for the next Sketchcrawl
Great. It would be fun to have you there.
Hey guys, that’s not fair! Portland is way across the continent!!! How about a workshop in New England? Nova Scotia? New Brunswick?
We are always looking for local organizers. If you can get a group together let us know!
