Headstones

I painted outside today and I can’t wait to do more of it as the weather continues to warm. My spot at a picnic table was a perfect place to set out all my gear and at some point I had a revelation (I have lots of these when I’m painting!). During this whole endless winter, painting in my car, I have never been able to do really loose brush strokes because I’m kind of restrained in my seat. So I stood up at the picnic table, held my brush much more loosely and higher on the handle, and painted a few trees using the movement of my whole arm instead of just my hand. Felt great!

LOVE the broad strokes. I think it is time to do some YouTube videos of you in action Shari. I realized the importance of the punctuations of sienna colour on the headstones when I covered them to see how it looks without it, and the whole palette went flat, if you know what I mean – well of course you do! BTW I was driving through Griffintown today imagining you scouting out compositions there.

    • Thanks Alison. Ya, YouTube videos. That will be next 🙂
If you want to see me in action, come to a workshop.
I love Griffintown because there’s so much to paint. Every corner has something. I definitely have not explored all there is to see there. But I need a driver so I can scout out spots to paint. It’s hard to focus on the road and look for good views at the same time.

Hello Shari! The newly formed Quebec City sketchers group was out sketching headstones this evening, too! We’ll have the results up on our blog, http://drawntoquebec.blogspot.org later this evening. 🙂

The depth of this painting is great…the eye just keeps on traveling back to the tower.
