Painting the painters
Posted: July 25, 2012 Filed under: Uncategorized 12 CommentsI had a great sketching day in Old Montreal with Marc Holmes and brand new Montreal Urban Sketcher Helmut Langeder. We painted amidst all the tourists on Place Jacques Cartier in Old Montreal, and even had our own celebrity spotting of Bob Saget being filmed for the Just for Laughs Festival. The Rue des Artistes is a narrow alley filled with people selling paintings and photos — and since it probably would have required some sort of municipal permit to paint inside there — we sat outside looking in.

It’s just like that, you’ve captured it so well!
The streets of Montreal never looked so good!
The one point perspective draws the eye in, the paintings within a painting are clever and the group of people is so convincing. Although I will comment that you have managed to paint the whole group of people without really painting any single person.
That’s a good thing, right?
Yes, of course it is a good thing… I wouldn’t want you to spend too much time painting random people in a group (which wouldn’t really add to this painting)… I would much rather that you spend your spare time scanning those previous posts from when you were away having a good time, so that we can see how bright and colourful SD really was. : )
Ok, ok, I get the hint…
Now, that wasn’t so hard, was it? Thank you, they look soooo much better… but there are still more to go…
A few every day… Be patient!
Here I am… still being patient. : )
Captured very well indeed. Too many great things gong on in this sketch for me to list them all. Great composition with the street bustle contrasted with the calm above, and the banner holding the side together… Love it.
Thanks Alison. Are you ready to try a busy street scene??
Great “reportage” Shari.
Thanks John. It was fun to sit in the middle of all the action again.
